Softball Game Preview: Apopka Blue Darters vs. Edgewater Eagles

Apopka is a perfect 7-0 against Edgewater since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Apopka Blue Darters will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Edgewater Eagles at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Apopka has three straight wins, Edgewater has 18 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Apopka's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on West Orange with a sharp 15-0 victory. Fans of the Blue Darters have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Ava Millspaugh looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylor Smith, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and five RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Ava Gonzalez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Apopka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Edgewater fell victim to Trinity Christian Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 16-0 to Trinity Christian Academy.

Apopka pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Edgewater, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything went Apopka's way against Edgewater when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Apopka made off with a 16-1 victory. Will Apopka repeat their success, or does Edgewater have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
