Baseball Game Preview: Sunnyside Wildcats vs. Shafter Generals

The Sunnyside Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Shafter Generals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Sunnyside is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Yosemite get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since May 3, 2024.

Meanwhile, Shafter had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Titans. Seven seems to be a good number for the Generals as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Joaquin Garza was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Noah Bill, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Shafter's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Sunnyside, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-16 record.
