Baseball Recap: Buena Beats St. Joseph for Their Third Straight Win

Buena came out on top against St. Joseph on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run seventh inning. The Chiefs walked away with a 13-10 win over the Wildcats. That's more bragging rights for the Chiefs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jaevon Alexander made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Josue Cuadrado was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Buena is undefeated when Cuadrado posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ben Cohen, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Buena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

The victory (which was Buena's third in a row) raised their record to 8-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Coming up, Buena will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Millville at 9:30 a.m. As for St. Joseph, they will venture away from home to take on Pleasantville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Greyhounds will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
