Basketball Recap: Horn Lake Takes a Loss

Horn Lake lost against Hernando two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Horn Lake Eagles took a 58-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hernando Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Tigers are ranked 35th).

Hernando's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaliyah Kelly led the charge by putting up 21 points and six boards. Kelly has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gemma Walker, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 16 points.

Horn Lake has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Hernando, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Horn Lake has already played their next matchup (against DeSoto Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hernando didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 75-62 win against Southaven on the 24th.
