Football Recap: Ashe County Huskies vs. Watauga Pioneers
Ashe County kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a blow against the Watauga Pioneers, falling 56-7. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.
Cade Keller had an outrageously good game for Watauga as he threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns on perfect 8-for-8 passing, and also rushed for 48 yards and one TD. The dominant performance also gave Keller a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Everett Gryder was another key player, rushing for 59 yards and one score.
Ashe County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alexander Central at 7:30 p.m. on September 5. As for Watauga, they will challenge T.C. Roberson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
