Volleyball Recap: Merrillville Pirates vs. Chesterton Trojans
Merrillville had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 9-16 to make it seven. They came up short against the Chesterton Trojans, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, with their most recent defeat being a 2-0 loss two weeks ago.
Chris Wilson paced Merrillville's offense, picking up six kills. Wilson got some help from Maurice LaGrand and his 14 assists. Finally, Logan Krause kept Merrillville's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.
As for Chesterton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. The win was familiar territory for they, who have now won four matchups in a row.
Chesterton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adam LeNeave, who had eight digs and four aces. That's the most aces LeNeave has posted since back in April.
Merrillville and Chesterton are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. After both having extra time off, the Pirates and Andrean will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fighting 59ers will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Merrillville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chesterton, they will take on South Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
