Basketball Recap: La Junta Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

La Junta and Eaton squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but La Junta had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 54-17 loss at the hands of the Eaton Reds. The match marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Kinsley Mayo was La Junta's leading scorer, having posted five points. Isabelle Aragon held things down on the boards with six rebounds.

Leading Eaton to victory were Courtney Steinkamp and Saryiah Gaona. Steinkamp posted 17 points along with six boards and three steals, while Gaona went 5-for-6 on her way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. What's more, Gaona also posted an 83% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Delaney Reuter, who scored eight points.

La Junta is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-13. As for Eaton, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

La Junta does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eaton, they have already played their next matchup, a 38-35 loss against Colorado Academy on the 8th.
