Basketball Recap: Churchville-Chili Comes Up Short

After flying high against Batavia last Tuesday, Churchville-Chili came back down to earth. The Churchville-Chili Saints were beaten by the Aquinas Institute Little Irish 74-47 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 361st in New York, while the Little Irish are ranked second in New York).

Churchville-Chili lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Julia Gaffney, who went 7-for-16 on her way to 21 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Marone, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Churchville-Chili has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. Aquinas Institute pushed their record up to 19-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Aquinas Institute beat Churchville-Chili by a score of 74-47 later that day.
