Softball Recap: Bear River Falls Short Against Ranked Riverton

On Wednesday, Bear River faced Riverton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Bear River Bears fell just short of the Riverton Silverwolves by a score of 7-5. It was the first time this season that the Bears let down their fans at home.

Kate Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Bella Dougals was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Luci Roche was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Dougals wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Bear River lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Having lost for the first time this season, Bear River fell to 7-1. As for Riverton, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bear River will venture away from home to square off against Ridgeline at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Riverton, they will head out to face off against Bountiful at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
