Basketball Recap: Covenant Day Lions vs. Gaston Christian Eagles        
        
		
             Covenant Day couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell to the Gaston Christian Eagles  55-49. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the  84-62 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture  back in December of 2022.
 Covenant Day lost  on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being   Chris Rivens, who  posted 16 points plus eight  rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of  Tyree White, who  went 6 for 13 en route to 14 points plus six  rebounds.
  Cameron Newman had an outrageously good game for Gaston Christian as he  scored 17 points in addition to seven  assists and seven  rebounds.  Corey Carpenter was another key player,  earning 12 points.
 Covenant Day will hit the road for the first time this season to  take on  Christ School  at 6:00  p.m.  on Friday. As for Gaston Christian, they will face off against Queen's Grant at 4:30  p.m.  on Saturday.
