Baseball Game Preview: Mayfield Cardinals vs. Livingston Central Cardinals

Mayfield will challenge Livingston Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Mayfield and four for Livingston Central.

Mayfield lost 18-3 to St. Mary on Thursday.

Mayfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jett Hawkins, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Carson Price also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Livingston Central and Webster County have met, but the home crowd finally got their W last Tuesday. The Cardinals came up short against the Trojans, falling 11-1.

Livingston Central's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Mayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Mayfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. Mayfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Livingston Central, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mayfield continue to outrun the ball?

Mayfield suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Livingston Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Mayfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
