Baseball Recap: Mohawk Area Find Success

Mohawk Area had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-8 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They won by a run and slipped past the New Brighton Lions 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Drew Wrona made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Mohawk Area is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. Wrona was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Adam Deal looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Wrona wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bobby Fadden, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for New Brighton, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-6. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but Mohawk Area's pitchers proved too tough.

Like Mohawk Area, New Brighton also got a great game from a two-way player: Brock Budacki. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Budacki was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Mohawk Area will be playing at home against Ambridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for New Brighton, they will square off against Neshannock at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
