Softball Recap: Shelbyville Golden Bears vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars
Shelbyville had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 16-11 to make it six. They took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greenfield-Central Cougars. The Golden Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Anna Shearer and Addison Stieneker stepped up to the plate in a big way. Shearer went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base, while Stieneker went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Herald, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Greenfield-Central, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games.
On Greenfield-Central's side, the team relied heavily on Savvanna Riall, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those seven RBI gave Riall a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leilani Forshey, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Looking ahead, Shelbyville is taking a road trip to take on Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Greenfield-Central, they will host Carmel at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
