Softball Recap: Covington's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Covington had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 5-9 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Fountain Central Mustangs 12-3. The Trojans not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 25-9).

Alexus Peaslee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Haley Holycross and Preslee Shaw did most of the damage at the plate: Holycross fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4, while Shaw went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those two home runs gave Holycross a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Sutherlin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Fountain Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-11.

On Fountain Central's side, Keylee Stonebraker was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacquelynn Weber, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Covington will challenge Crawfordsville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Athenians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.58 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fountain Central, they will take on North Montgomery at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
