Preview: Oxford Wolverines vs. Ansonia Chargers
Oxford is 1-9 against Ansonia since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Oxford Wolverines will head out on the road to take on the Ansonia Chargers at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Oxford's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 80-54 defeat at the hands of Seymour. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Oxford has suffered yet this season.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 85-46, which was the final score in Ansonia's tilt against Waterbury Career Academy last Friday. Ansonia has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Oxford's defeat was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-8. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Ansonia, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Oxford came up short against Ansonia when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 57-53. Can Oxford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
