Volleyball Recap: Long Beach Comes Up Short

If Long Beach was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of St. Martin last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bearcats lost 3-0 to the West Harrison Hurricanes on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bearcats of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Long Beach took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-14, 29-27.

Among those leading the charge was Hadlee Weinberg, who had 13 digs and two aces. Those 13 digs gave her a new career-high. Julia Sykes also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Long Beach now has a losing record of 1-2. As for West Harrison, they pushed their record up to 4-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, Long Beach and West Harrison will both be playing Harrison Central the next time they take the court. The Bearcats will host the Red Rebels at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Hurricanes will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
