Basketball Recap: Evansville Reitz Starts Season with Victory Against Evansville North

Evansville Reitz had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took down the Evansville North Huskies 63-48 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Evansville Reitz's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kierstyn Kaiser led the charge by putting up ten points in addition to eight steals and seven rebounds. Those eight steals gave Kaiser a new career-high. Keilah Mitchell was another key player, scoring 13 points along with five boards and five steals.

Despite the loss, Evansville North still got an impressive performance from Maddy Walters, who went 7-for-17 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Zhaeyana Cooper, who posted nine points and five assists.

Evansville North's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Evansville Reitz didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-43 victory against New Albany on the 22nd. As for Evansville North, they have also already played their next matchup, a 49-38 defeat against Castle on the 25th.
