Softball Recap: Gaffney Triumphs

Gaffney was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Crescent Tigers 7-6.

Ashley Caraway was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Caraway was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Gaffney let Miya Calhoun and Maysen Byars run wild. Calhoun went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs, while Byars scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Byars is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Gaffney hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most one strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Gaffney now has a winning record of 2-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Crescent beat Gaffney by a score of 7-2 later that day.
