Softball Recap: Scripps Ranch Has No Trouble Against Carlsbad

Scripps Ranch was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Carlsbad on Wednesday. The Scripps Ranch Falcons blew past the Carlsbad Lancers 11-5. This was payback for the Falcons, who suffered a 6-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Scripps Ranch let Sarah Mather and Katelyn Toth run wild. Mather went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Toth scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Toth has posted since back in April of 2024. Sarah Cornelissen was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

Scripps Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in four consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Scripps Ranch now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Carlsbad, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scripps Ranch will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carlsbad, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against San Marcos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
