Baseball Recap: Schuylkill Valley Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Schuylkill Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Kutztown Cougars 10-9. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won three contests in a row.

Bodie James was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. James was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Gilmer, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Connor Huggard, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Schuylkill Valley pushed their record up to 6-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Kutztown, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Schuylkill Valley will take on Wyomissing at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kutztown, they will face off against Hamburg at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
