Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Lubbock-Cooper's 17th in Last 18 Outings

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lubbock-Cooper had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Memorial Mavericks. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 20 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brooklyn Ray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Addison Luna was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was McKanna Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lubbock-Cooper kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in ten consecutive contests.

Lubbock-Cooper is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Memorial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-20.

Lubbock-Cooper will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mavericks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
