The Cordova Lancers will challenge the Kennedy Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Cordova, who comes in off a win.
Cordova is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Valley Christian on Thursday as Cordova made off with a 14-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won three matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Levi Nyberg was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Alfonso Maya was another key player, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Cordova was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are undefeated (2-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Kennedy came up short against Cordova on Wednesday, falling 11-3. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lucas Namikawa was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Namikawa wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Oliver Parkinson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Cordova pushed their record up to 5-4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cordova has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Cordova's way against Kennedy in their previous meeting on Wednesday, as Cordova made off with an 11-3 victory. Does Cordova have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kennedy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
