Basketball Recap: Socrates Academy Takes a Loss

Socrates Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Gaston Christian Eagles, falling 75-5. The Owls were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-4.

Gaston Christian was led to victory by Happy Arune and Emily Haux. Arune dropped a double-double on 26 points and 17 boards, while Haux went 9 for 11 en route to 21 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Arune is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Claudia Sanchez, who posted ten points and four steals.

Socrates Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Gaston Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Socrates Academy will venture away from home to take on UR Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gaston Christian, they will welcome Westminster Catawba Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaston Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
