Football Game Preview: Grapevine Mustangs vs. Burleson Elks + How To Watch

The Grapevine Mustangs will square off against the Burleson Elks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Grapevine has given up an average of 29.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Grapevine's last matchup with Mansfield Summit could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Thursday. The Mustangs were dealt a 58-14 loss at the hands of the Jaguars. The Mustangs' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Although Grapevine took the loss, they still got scores from Brady Kays and Jailen Holmes.

Meanwhile, Burleson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Friday as they fell 34-30 to Mansfield Summit. While losing is never fun, the Elks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Jaguars are ranked 108th).

Grapevine will have to contain Andrew Sparks as he made an impact in Burleson's last game. He rushed for 116 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 146 yards on 11 of 26 attempts.

Burleson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaden Thurston and Brayden Brown. Brown is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Another thorn in Mansfield Summit's side was Donya Armstrong, who made 13 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Grapevine's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Burleson, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Grapevine came up short against Burleson in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 9-0. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sparks, who rushed for 100 yards, and also threw for 155 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.
