Baseball Game Preview: Downey Knights vs. Turlock Bulldogs

The Downey Knights will head out to challenge the Turlock Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

If Downey beats Turlock with seven runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Knights came out on top against Beyer by a score of 7-3 on Thursday.

Jayceon Sloan was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

In other pitching news, Isaiah Hernandez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Downey: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-11 otherwise.

Sloan wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julian Masani, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Masani is becoming a predictor of Downey's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 10-12 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Turlock narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Arroyo Grande 4-3.

Like Downey, Turlock also got a great game from a two-way player: Mason Hackler. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Hackler has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Downey now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Turlock, their record now sits at 16-6-1.
