Basketball Recap: Modesto Christian Gets the Win

Modesto Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 58-57 victory over the Buchtel Griffins.

Modesto Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gavin Sykes out in front who posted 19 points and five boards. The contest was Sykes' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Trevor Dickson was another key player, going 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points.

Modesto Christian now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Buchtel, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Modesto Christian will welcome Downey at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Modesto Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Buchtel and Cristo Rey Philadelphia will round out the year against one another at at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
