Softball Recap: Parkersburg Takes a Loss

Parkersburg had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it 12. They came up short against the St. Albans Red Dragons, falling 12-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Big Reds were not able to get on the board.

As for St. Albans, they moved to 9-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For St. Albans' part, Ava Bentley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Bentley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Carlee Parker was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Cece Lackey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Parkersburg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-5 defeat against St. Marys on the 24th. As for St. Albans, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-0 victory against Capital on the 24th.
