Basketball Recap: Cedar Valley Falls Despite Big Games from Tucker Wright and Obed Borruel

Cedar Valley lost against Springville back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cedar Valley Aviators lost 68-48 to the Springville Red Devils. The Aviators were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-16.

Obed Borruel and Tucker Wright certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Borruel posted nine points along with five boards and three steals, while Wright earned 11 points. The dominant performance also gave Wright a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (50%). Logan Smith also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Springville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamyn Sondrup led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sondrup has become a key player for Springville: the team is 15-3 when he posts at least eight boards, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Swift Hall, who went 7-for-10 en route to 17 points.

Cedar Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. Springville's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6.

Cedar Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 86-73 win against Salem Hills on the 14th. As for Springville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-41 defeat against Orem on the 14th.
