Softball Recap: Poston Butte Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Poston Butte had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Flagstaff Eagles by a score of 11-7 on Wednesday. The win was nothing new for the Broncos as they're now sitting on four straight.

Haylee Lopez was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off 14 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kimberly Westover, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Chloe Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Poston Butte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests.

Poston Butte's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-9. As for Flagstaff, they moved to 19-10-1 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Poston Butte will face off against Salpointe Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. Flagstaff does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
