Owen is 2-8 against Avery County since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Owen Warhorses just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Avery County Vikings at 6:30 p.m.
Owen is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Mountain Heritage and fell 49-10. The Warhorses were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-3.

Despite the defeat, Owen saw an underclassman step up: freshman Katie Knighton posted three points and three steals. Those three points gave Knighton a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Avery County hadn't done well against Rosman recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Avery County simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rosman 51-21. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 24 points or more this season.
Avery County found their leader in sophomore Marley Jones, who went 6 of 12 en route to 19 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Jones is becoming a predictor of Avery County's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 9-2 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Hallie Johnson was another key player, putting up eight points.
Avery County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rosman only pulled down nine offensive boards.
Avery County's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Owen, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Owen has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 30.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Avery County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Owen was dealt a bruising 77-25 defeat at the hands of Avery County when the teams last played back in February of 2024.
