Recap: North Providence Cougars vs. Narragansett Mariners

On Thursday, the North Providence Cougars faced the Narragansett Mariners in a battle between two of the state's top teams. North Providence fell just short of Narragansett by a score of 35-33. North Providence's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why North Providence lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lusine Hagopian. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Hagopian is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Elyse Brassard, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.

North Providence's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5. As for Narragansett, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Providence won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lincoln School at 4:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Lincoln School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday. As for Narragansett, they will head out on the road to square off against Pilgrim at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pilgrim will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Rhode Island Rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Narragansett is ranked first).
