McDonough picks up 12th straight win at home

Recap: McDonough Warhawks vs. Luella Lions

The McDonough Warhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 73-45 win over Luella at home. Given McDonough's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Luella is ranked 270th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

McDonough's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nigel Thomas, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Thomas' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keenan Gray, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.

McDonough's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.33 points. As for Luella, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McDonough won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Stockbridge at 4:30 p.m. on January 6th. Stockbridge has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Luella, they will head out on the road to face off against Pace Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
