Softball Game Preview: Plato Eagles vs. Summersville Wildcats

The Plato Eagles will take on the Summersville Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Plato's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Summersville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Plato is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Mountain Grove just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-4. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Summersville faced off against Bakersfield on Friday. The Wildcats took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions.

Tara Bryant stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Havens, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Plato's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Summersville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Everything went Plato's way against Summersville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Plato made off with a 16-1 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
