Volleyball Recap: Pomona Panthers vs. D'Evelyn Jaguars
It was a proper cat-fight when Pomona challenged D'Evelyn on Thursday. The Panthers came up short against the Jaguars, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 last Thursday.
While Pomona was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into D'Evelyn's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-19, 25-20.
Aleyah Pruitt paced Pomona's offense, picking up nine kills. Pruitt really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 18. Macy Stemple and Avery Guyer kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.
D'Evelyn found their leader in sophomore Chelyn Kwon, who had 11 digs and seven aces. With that strong performance, Kwon is now averaging an impressive 2.2 aces per game. Claire Goeke also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Pomona's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-19. As for D'Evelyn, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-13.
