Softball Recap: Bay City Comes Up Short

Bay City had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-18 to make it four. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the El Campo Ricebirds. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Ricebirds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 back in March.

Danielle Maldonado and Ameryce Jacques stepped up to the plate in a big way. Maldonado went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Jacques went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

As for El Campo, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 19-6-1 record this season. The victory was nothing new for El Campo as they're now sitting on three straight.

On El Campo's side, Kamryn Mears made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Mears was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrienne Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Mac'Yia Warner was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Bay City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for El Campo, they will venture away from home to square off against Hallettsville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Brahmas' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Ricebirds' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
