Basketball Recap: Cypress Creek Comes Up Short

Cypress Creek lost against Wiregrass Ranch back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cypress Creek Coyotes fell just short of the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls by a score of 71-68. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 456th, while the Bulls are ranked 79th).

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Creek lost, don't look at Caleb Edmonds. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 17 on his way to 19 points and six boards. What's more, Edmonds also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Manuel Castro, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cypress Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wiregrass Ranch only racked up nine assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wiregrass Ranch to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ajayden Jenkins, who went 7 of 12 en route to 18 points and three steals. Jenkins has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Donovan Gaines was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 16 points and seven boards.

Cypress Creek's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Wiregrass Ranch, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Cypress Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-55 victory against River Ridge on the 30th. As for Wiregrass Ranch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 78-62 win against Gulf on the 29th.
