Softball Recap: Sumter Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Sumter, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top against the Westwood Redhawks by a score of 8-4 on Tuesday.

Sumter got a big performance out of Hannah DuRant, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Remy Shauf, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Sumter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westwood struck out 11 times.

Sumter is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Westwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Sumter will have a chance to go back-to-back against Westwood: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
