Recap: Thornton Trojans vs. Liberty Lancers
The Thornton Trojans fell victim to the Liberty Lancers''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Lancers 49-0. Thornton's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Christopher Hunter had an outrageously good game for Liberty as he rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per carry. Hunter was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards. Lucas Westerman also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Thornton's loss was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 3-7 Palmer and 3-7 Gateway (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.8% over those games). As for Liberty, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Thornton will look to defend their home field on Friday against Aurora Central at 7:00 p.m. Aurora Central comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Liberty, they will head out on the road to face off against Widefield at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
