Washburn took care of business in their home opener on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 72-57 win over the Knoxville A Ambassadors. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 67-59 victory the Ambassadors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Dillon Mullins went supernova, shooting 60% from beyond the arc on his way to 33 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Harville, who went 6-for-10 en route to 13 points.

Despite the defeat, Knoxville A saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Samuel Alft dropped a double-double with 25 points and 12 boards. The matchup was Alft's third in a row with at least 25 points. Edan Hodson was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Knoxville A's loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Washburn wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-50 win against Eagleton College & Career Academy on the 22nd. As for Knoxville A, they have also already played their next contest, a 54-53 defeat against Independent Athletic Ministries on the 22nd.
