Softball Game Preview: Woodmore Wildcats vs. Gibsonburg Golden Bears

The Woodmore Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Gibsonburg Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Woodmore faced off against St. Mary Central Catholic on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 4-0 shutout. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Gibsonburg got the win against Old Fort on Thursday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Golden Bears, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ava Amor made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ansley Fleming, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Mia Brink was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Gibsonburg has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Woodmore, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Woodmore suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Gibsonburg in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
