Basketball Recap: Logansport Comes Up Short

After flying high against Wabash last Friday, Logansport came back down to earth. The Logansport Berries were dealt a 76-34 defeat at the hands of the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Berries in their matchups with the Bronchos: they've now lost seven in a row.

Logansport's loss came despite strong showings from Deagan Kitchel and Eli Baldwin. Kitchel posted eight points and five boards, while Baldwin put up seven points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Kitchel a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Chris Anthony Delvalle, who had seven points.

Even though they lost, Logansport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Lafayette Jefferson had a senior duo take command as Alonzo Clawson-Smith went 8 of 11 on his way to 20 points and five steals and Devion Penny went 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points and six rebounds. Clawson-Smith's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Treshawn Baker, who posted ten points.

Logansport's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Lafayette Jefferson, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Logansport will square off against Kokomo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kokomo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 80.2 points per game this season. As for Lafayette Jefferson, they will take on Muncie Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Muncie Central: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Lafayette Jefferson has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
