Football Recap: Cedar Grove's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

After flying high against Newark Collegiate Academy last Saturday, Cedar Grove came back down to earth. The Panthers took a 29-14 bruising from the Caldwell Chiefs on Friday. The matchup marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Defeat or not, Cedar Grove got some senior leadership from Thomas Cannataro and Pierce Asfalg. Cannataro gained 143 total yards and a touchdown, while Asfalg rushed for 109 yards and one touchdown. Cannataro also set a new season-high mark in rushing yards with 101.

The loss snapped Cedar Grove's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-2 record. As for Caldwell, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Coming up, Cedar Grove will face off against Glen Ridge at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Caldwell, they will welcome Shabazz on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 14.8 points per game this season, so the Chiefs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
