Brevard has won six straight games at home, while Franklin has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. Brevard will welcome Franklin at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Brevard's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Patton hitters got past them. Brevard walked away with a 13-10 victory over Patton on Tuesday. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Emma Bailey made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Claire Wilson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Makenzie Ward was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Brevard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Franklin put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Smoky Mountain. Franklin was the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over Smoky Mountain. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Brevard, Franklin also got a great game from a two-way player: Suzanna Cabe. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Furthermore, Cabe didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlynn McConnell, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Layla Maloy, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Franklin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. Brevard's win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Brevard might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Franklin when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Will Brevard have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
