Baseball Recap: St. James Sets Scoring Season-High Against Conway

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. James). Everything went their way against the Conway Tigers on Friday as they made off with an 11-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Jacob Herrick tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, St. James let Josh Harnish and Jackson Squires run wild. Harnish scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Squires scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Harnish has become a key player for St. James: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Luke Kessler was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI.

St. James always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

St. James' record is now 7-8. As for Conway, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Looking ahead, St. James will take on North Myrtle Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Sharks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chiefs have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Conway, they will challenge Aynor at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Jackets will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
