Baseball Recap: Silver Stage Comes Up Short

Silver Stage had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 3-21 to make it six. They fell just short of the Pershing County Mustangs by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on Tuesday.

Blayne Baratti Butler made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. Jose Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Pershing County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Pershing County's side, Ayden Montes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Montes has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trenton Rhodes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Pershing County is undefeated when Rhodes posts two or more runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Houston Allen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Pershing County beat Silver Stage by a score of 12-2 later that day.
