Baseball Game Preview: Antigo Red Robins vs. Union Grove Broncos

The Antigo Red Robins will challenge the Union Grove Broncos at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Antigo took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Northland Pines, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Robins had just enough and edged out the Eagles 9-7.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Union Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Badger a 2-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Broncos have posted against the Badgers since April 11, 2022.

Not much got past Kody Hage, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Badger off the board. Hage also tossed no walks, which is notable because Union Grove is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Union Grove saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Dye, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double. That double was Dye's first of the season.

Antigo's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Union Grove, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Antigo beat Union Grove 8-3 in their previous matchup back in June of 2019. Will the Red Robins repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
