League recap: Bishop LeBlond climbs in state rankings

Bishop LeBlond moved up to 106 from 144 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Midland Empire. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of topping Chillicothe 14-0.

Smithville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Warriors triumphed over Lafayette 29-9.

Matthew McCullough provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Bishop LeBlond beat the Hornets. He completed 8 passes for 125 yards and also ran for 98 yards. McCullough's key target this week was Patrick Dillon, who caught 4 passes for 51 yards.

Drew Cortez put up the best numbers in passing as the Fighting Irish lost to Smithville. He had a total of 17 completions for 218 yards.

5-foot-10 quarterback Cortez of Lafayette is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,323. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brad Duncan. The Smithville star has 20 catches for 259 yards.

Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Greg Smith's team's Duncan goes up against Tony Dudik's team's Cort Patrick.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Cameron takes on Savannah. The Dragons are currently in sixth, while the Savages are in second.

Adding to the longest winning streak in Midland Empire this week, Maryville beat Cameron 44-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Spoofhounds.
