Soccer Game Preview: Riverdale vs. Mt. Whitney

The Riverdale Cowboys will head out on the road to square off against the Mt. Whitney Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Riverdale is looking to tack another W on to their season record, something they couldn't quite do against Washington Union on Friday. The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 3-3 draw. The Cowboys had to tread lightly for part of the game as Michael Garcia and Catarino Garcia were both handed yellow cards, which could explain the final result.

Christian Zamora and Xaidyn Camacho scored all three of Riverdale's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 15 goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Whitney). They never let Firebaugh onto the board and left with an 8-0 win on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Pioneers needed considering they were shutout in their previous contest.

Riverdale's draw makes their record 9-3-1 this season. As for Mt. Whitney, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2-3.

Riverdale beat Mt. Whitney 2-0 in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverdale since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
