Softball Recap: Columbia Beats Bay City for Their Fourth Straight Win

Columbia had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Bay City Blackcats by a score of 4-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-0 back in March.

Kimber Moraw made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Moraw wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Meghan Mehaffey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Mehaffey also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.

Columbia's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bay City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Columbia is set to face off against their familiar foe Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Roughnecks 3, the Bluejays 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Bay City will take on rival Brazosport at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
