Softball Game Preview: Blackduck Drakes vs. Fertile-Beltrami Falcons

The Blackduck Drakes will take on the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Blackduck's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Fertile-Beltrami has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

On Thursday, Blackduck didn't have quite enough to beat Hill City/Northland and fell 5-3. The match marked the Drakes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Bagley hit Fertile-Beltrami with a seven-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons lost 13-5 to the Flyers.

Britta Sorenson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and nine unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Fertile-Beltrami saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carley Sip, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Having lost for the first time this season, Blackduck fell to 5-1. As for Fertile-Beltrami, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Blackduck beat Fertile-Beltrami 3-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Drakes repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
